Making a Hit with Kitchen Remodeling in 2016

As the end of the year approaches, it’s time to take a look forward to 2016 and see what trends will be hot in the new year for home remodeling.

Since the kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the home, it makes sense to start there. The kitchen can add tremendous functionality and value to your home, and can easily be a driver of value if you ever decide to sell. Plus, a renovated kitchen is a pleasure to be in, which matters, since you’ll spend a lot of your time there.

Here are a few things you can do to help boost your kitchen remodeling project.

Functional Design Reigns Supreme

The homeowner of today wants his or her kitchen to be supremely functional.

This means designing with comfort and function in mind. Things like extra storage, built-in computer areas with chargers, wine coolers and refrigerators, trash compactors, and the like – all of these functional additions to the kitchen add value.

Bonus points if you wire a kitchen for entertainment by having a sound system and a television. This is especially true for open layouts that feature kitchen/living area combos.

Whites, Grays, and Neutral Colors

Kitchens are also becoming more neutral in that you’re seeing more whites, grays, and neutral colors as the basis for the palette in the kitchen.

In Southwest Florida, we love color. But going to a more neutral setting allows for more freedom in design and décor is what more homeowners are moving toward. This can be especially advantageous when you’re going to sell, since bright colors can turn some buyers off. Plus, a black-and-white kitchen looks striking and sophisticated. We’re seeing more of those themes popping up.

Unique, Eye-Catching Backsplashes

Homeowners will place more of an emphasis on the backsplash in their kitchen remodeling projects, creating unique, colorful, and extravagant backsplashes to add to the kitchen’s look and feel.

Stone is a material that will see more play in 2016 as a backsplash. Steel also has become more popular – plus it makes a kitchen look bigger and adds a professional look to the space. And as always, subway tile is very popular and isn’t just for the bathroom.
